Ok It's down to 9 last table players in the 2008 WORLD SERIES OF POKER and it's quite a diverse field. The following players will be seeking the 2008 title. This is in order of chip quantities . Number 9) Kelly Kim (2.6 mil ) 8) Craig Marquis ( 10 mill), 7) David " Chino" Rheem ( 10 mill) , 6) Darus Suhalto ( 12mill), 5) Yion Schartz ( 12.2mill), 4) Peter Eastgate ( 18.3 mill), 3) Scott Montgomery ( 19 mill), 2) Ivan Demindov (24 mill), 1) Dennis Phillips (26 mill). It is a tight field with an older dude leading the pack and with a few young sharks looking for the title. In my book it comes down to David " Chino" Rheem or Ivan Demindov. Gun to the ead I'm picking DEMINDOV to take home the grand prize. Watch it tomorrow on ESPN !

I went to the NY GIANTS vs the DALLAS COWBOYS game this week and besides the warmth of the beer and the need to get seats further apart inside the stadium( new stadium will take care of that), the one thing that really disturbed me was the amount of guys that wear every possible piece of their favorite teams apparel , in this case the NY GIANTS. NY GIANT wool caps, baseball caps, fedora hats, earmuffs, sweatpants, sweatshirts, hoodies, mufflers, scarves, every player jersey for the past 73 years ( Bavaro, LT, Banks, McConkey) and all the new ones in mass ( Manning, Burress, etc) , it goes on and on . 62 year old bankers walking in with a NY GIANTS Hardhat, Lawrence Taylor jersey,

I was watching the biography of Willie Nelson last night and when they got to his big breakthrough in his career I was stunned. There she was , Patsy Cline, too much make up..a few extra lbs., and some goofy headband on..But she sang better then any woman I have ever heard sing a song. The inflections of her voice was sexy and smokey, while her body movements showed an air of confidence and a " I don't give a f''about anything" look that dominated the rudimentary black and white TV camera. If you have never seen this video , check it out on Buzzspray.com and you will want to be in a bar with Patsy, smoking a Marlboro, sipping a Wild Turkey, and listening to her sing to you. What a great ...great...song and singer !

What happened to all the experts when Oil was trading at 135 a barrel? When they were saying Oil was going to go straight to 200 ? Goldman and all the pontiffs of petroleum ( T Boone Pickens) etc were saying we were going to $ 200 and in the past few months as we have done is a Bataan death march to -66.88 , we haven't heard a peep from the experts except the occassional.. " Well we knew there would be a correction at some point" and " The Saudis decided to take their foot off the pipelines". but no one has said boo or even " I was wrong " So I'll be the first to say it. We can't be guessing about oil prices or house prices because it's all manipulated, so when the traders cover all their shorts then Oil will start going up again. So experts ..Go back to sleep..I will handle the guessing !

next on the financial front ? I think OIL falls to around $ 65 a barrel and will bounce from there , prob in December...and I also think the DOW sinks to the 8200-8300 level and then levels off for a year or too.

The RED SOX did give it a noble try, but it just wasn't enough. Special kudos to Dustin Pedroia, Jason Varitek, and J D Drew, but the RAYS kept coming and coming and they never gave up with the favored RED SOX. On the RAYS side you could give the whole team( except some in the bullpen) a thumbs up, but special props go to BJ UPTON, EVAN LONGORIO, WILLY AYBAR, and also manager JOE MADDON. They really deserved this !

By JOHN LEICESTER, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 6 minutes ago PARIS - A French museum has found a previously unknown piece of music handwritten by Mozart, a researcher said Thursday. The 18th century melody sketch is missing the harmony and instrumentation but was described as important find. ADVERTISEMENT Ulrich Leisinger, head of research at the International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg, Austria, said there is no doubt that the single sheet was written by the composer. "This is absolutely new," Leisinger said in a telephone interview. "We have new music here." "His handwriting is absolutely clearly identifiable," he added. "There's no doubt that this is an original piece handwritten by Mozart." The work, described as the preliminary draft of a musical composition, was found by a library in Nantes in western France as staff were going through its archives. Leisinger says the library contacted his foundation for help authenticating the work. "It's a melody sketch so what's missing is the harmony and the instrumentation but you can make sense out of it," he said. "The tune is complete. It's only one part and not the whole score with eight or twelve parts." "One can really get a feeling of what Mozart meant although we do not know how he would have orchestrated it." The city is planning to hold a news conference on the find later on Thursday.

What are you guys smokin these days? With the great weather , golf season etc.. you must be lighting up. I've always been a big fan of the robusto, it's the perfect size not too long , but a serious smoke you can get through with a busy schedule. With it's fairly wide ring size you get a good full draw and some of the other advantages of a longer bigger smoke. I've always thought the Cohiba Robusto and the partagas Serie D were the best smokes going. In todays economy i've been looking for great smokes under $10 a stick, clearly the Cohiba and Partagas if you can find them are going to be closer to $25 a pop. I found two real good ones. the first is the CAO Brazilia ($5), Dark and oily , nice nut and white pepper flavors. La Flor Dominicana ($4), nice even smoke , flavors of cedar, leather and coffee. Both excellent buys and easy to find.

I saw the shots of Miley Cyrus and although they don't seem that bad to me ,they definitely were done in bad taste and with a degree of sinister intent. It is said that Annie Leibovitz was just taking one of her " celebrity shots" but everybody who knows her work knows that satin sheets, bare backs, buttocks, etc etc are her " celebrity" trademark.. See John and Yoko(john is nude), Madonna, Demi Moore, etc. So when Ol' Annie said to Billy Ray and wife.. " Let me take a few barebacks of tour 15 year old daughter" Did they not think..NOOO ! Instead they looked at the Digital prints at the studio and said.." They're Cool" or something like that. Now Miley Cyrus has to live with her parents bad judgement and Annie's calculated one the rest of her life. Hopefully she won't be BRITNEYED !

night and it was awesome. The restaurant which was located right across the street from my Marriot Residence Inn( I'll talk about that at a later time) was perfectly situated for a perfect night. My wife and I walked the short block over and situated ourselves at the old refurbished bar, After 2 Patron Maugeritas(what can I tell you guys) , we were led to our table right near the firewood stoked oven. I ordered the regular Bibb salad for an appetizer, but then came my BRAISED SHORT RIB over chive mashed potatoes. I could have squealed like a little baby, but instead I just enjoyed the epicurean delight and vowed to come back to OLIVE'S every chance I got..But the problem is the RED SAWX play there so I'm done for a few years at least, but if your ever in BASTIN(Boston) stop by OLIVE'S and get the braised Ribs,, They are just that good !

recently ran into a good friend and wine collector sitting in the stands on a warm afternoon watching a lacrosse game. We had the usual conversation we normally have about "real" wine , RED. I've always thought that with few exceptions all wine would be Red if it could. However he switched topics to the warmer weather and Chardonnay, we discussed old favorites/standbys such as Rochioli, Chalk Hill and Landmark as exceptional wines for the money $25-40 range. I headed to my local wine merchant thinking about finding a couple of exceptional bottles to share with friends out on the deck. Much to my surprise i found a number of exceptional bottles that were complex , broad range of flavors and bold but not overdone. I highly recommend heading out to find the following bottlings, Ramey Vineyards their los carneros is very nice in the $30-40 range , a bit more expensive but well worth the cash are their Hudson vineyard and Hyde vineyard bottlings. the hyde is a stunning wine. Newton has several bottlings including a nice lower $20's wine called Red label very solid, but their flagship is the Unfiltered Chardonnay , the last two vintages have been off the charts good. I also picked up some paul Hobbs chardonnay. I love Paul Hobbs wines, this chardonnay is very good , albeit not as stand out as past vintages. It paled in comparison to the Ramey and newton , however would have fared much better by itself.

Or more correctly Pissed off that I'm not drinking two cases of Kistler chardonnay. I recently renovated my home and put in a wine cellar. Last weekend I went up to my professional, bonded wine storage place in Connecticut to bring some wines back to my home cellar. As I was poking around some of the cases I found two that were never added to my inventory list , two mixed cases of kistler chardonnay 1999. The cases included bottles from The Durrell, Hyde, Hudson, vine hill, and the catherines Cuvee. They are all shot . The vine hill may still be drinkable but the rest are shot. Pissed Off. With that said and the warmer spring weather headed in it's time to think about white wines and chardonnay what are you guys drinking?

I was not excited about this game. Memphis looked like it was going to roll, but there was one thing hanging out in the backround...Foul Shooting. So now with 2:12 to go and the Jayhawks down by 9, the Jayhawks installed the HACK A TIGER, and not Woods. Memphis made a few, but missed more and after a few tit for tats, the Jayhawks were down by 3 and needed to sink a 3 pointer with time running out to send Coach Bill Shelf to OT , where they basically took it right to the Calipari led Tigers who were now defeated. They mailed in the rest of the game amd now Kansas has it's 3rd National Title ..Congratulations !

With 3 BOB DYLAN Co-written songs, and the beautifully Southern baked pie of Rick Danko, Levoln Helm, Garth Hudson,Richard Manuel, and of course Robbie Robertson , MUSIC FROM BIG PINK claims it's stake as one of Rock's greatest albums. I remember sitting in my dorm room back in 1977 and now in my living room and hearing THE WEIGHT,LONG BLACK VEIL,THIS WHEEL'S ON FIRE, and every track on that album and thinking.." This is pure perfection" I still feel that now and even though THE BAND, went on to create even more perfection with THE BAND..The Night They Drove Ol Dixie Down, Up On Cripple Creek, etc etc... I still end up back in that dorm room with BIG PINK booming out of my B & O speakers and seeping through my mind like a fine puff of smoke !

King BS makes a good point when reviewing the best live song category last week when he put the entire Rock n Roll Animal album on the list. It is absolutely a great album Heroin as it's centerpiece. But what other live albums are the killers, which ones really capture the band at their best , or the essence of the times or the band. No cop out selections like the Woodstock album or the Last Waltz. I have a few favorites , Grateful Dead Europe 72 , might not have been the "best Dead" but certainly captured their audience and the time. James Brown "Live at the Apollo" the opening introduction is worth the price of admission. There are plenty of good ones but for my money one stands clearly above the rest The Ramones , "It's Alive" recorded in london 1977 , amazing blitz through like 30 songs. If you are a music fan and have not sat , bopped , pogoed your way through this amazing performance , do yourself a favor and listen .

The titl eis "Strong at the Broken Places, voice of illness , chorus of hope" the author Richard Cohen ( meredith veiras husband) spends three years intimately involved in the lives of 5 chronically ill people. These people are determined not to be defined by their illnesses. this books marches with these people through their struggles , triumphs and failures. I know it does not sound like something you are running to pick up , but do yourself a favor. chances are someone you know will be chronically ill at some point , this is a look into their world. tremendously well written.

Once again, trashy Spears made headlines today when she missed her scheduled court date, in her ongoing custody battle with ex. K-FED. Last week she was hospitalized for what was believed to be substance abuse, when she refused to give the children back to Federline as per her court order. Seeing what a catastrophe she has become, will she ever get back on top? Will she ever be hot again or will this train-wreck of a girl go down Jacko style, as having one of the greatest career downfalls in the history of music? Do we even care? What a waste…

Now that we have dispensed with the prentenders in the Wild Card Round, let the real playoffs begin. All the best teams are playing this weekend. Best football weekend of the season. My picks are - Pack takes care of Seattle, Pats over Jags (very tempted to pick Jags but I think Brady will figure a way to get it done), Colts over Chargers, and Giants take down Dallas.

Looks like this years annual Beacon run will be pushed back a little.... Dates yet to be announced but it's looking May, not the typical mid March into early April.

Who do you like this weekend? I like 3 road teams - Giants over Bucs, Skins over Seahawks, and Jags over Steelers to win. I like the Chargers at home against the Titans.

Having a young son , I was remanded to the movies this past weekend to see Alvin and the Chipmunks. The movie is fine as kids movies go. The bigger issue is that those of us who grew up with the cartoon and the infamous christmas song , start feeling old , that song came out 50 years ago.

A friend sent this review from THE GUARDIAN of London !..."in the days of my youth, i was told what it means to be a man, now i've reached that age, i've tried to do all those things the best i can" encore 1 = whole lotta love encore 2 = rock'n'roll show was supposedly UNREAL ! In a city accustomed to cultural happenings, the Led Zeppelin reunion assumed massive proportions, with many here billing it the "concert of the millennium" by "the greatest rock-and-roll band ever." A band that already was being dismissed by critics as self-indulgent by the late 1970s and passé by the time new wave and punk strode onto the stage in the 1980s suddenly has acquired new currency, simultaneously earning the covers this week of Rolling Stone in the United States and Q Magazine in the United Kingdom. "I don't think they were ever appreciated for the scale of band they were," Paul Rees, editor of Q, said in an interview. "Maybe it's a sort of 'absence makes the heart grow fonder,' but it's taken people time to realize the massive influence they had on an awful lot of music." For many who flooded into London's O2 Arena, it was an unapologetic trip to a well-remembered past. "I saw them in '73, '75 and '77. I'm what you could call hard-core. It's part of your soul. It's part of everything you did in the '70s," said Tina Ricardo of San Francisco. "How many chances do you get to live something over? That's it," she said. "I'm starting to cry now, just thinking about it." Likewise for fans from Tokyo. "I saw Led Zeppelin in 1971 and '72. That was 35 years ago. What can I say? So exciting," said Yoshihiro Hoshina, 53. "Led Zeppelin broke five hotel rooms in Japan – that's a bit of Japan history," he said before the concert. "But they're getting old; can Robert Plant sing in that high voice? Can Jimmy Page still play so smooth?" Answer: pretty much. With his button-down shirt mercifully buttoned up, Mr. Plant, 59, roamed the stage belting out hit after h

I've always been a hug fan of the wines of Behrens and Hitchcock. They are serious , big complex wines from premier vineyards with tons of fruit from the sweetest parts of Napa primarily Spring mountain region. The cabs are made from legendary vineyards, To-Kalon, Beckstoffer, Kenefick, Thoreviolos and others. last night a few of us got together and tried a sample of 5 of their 2002 cabs. All of the wines were delicious , but will likely improve for years to come. The wines were all big, robust, dark, juicy affairs, with amazingly long finishes, like close to a minute. They all exhibited lush mouth feel, almost to the point of being viscous. we tried the Ink Grade,Kenefick Ranch, Beckstoffer, To Kalon and Dr Crane vineyard. Common traits to all , Coffee, espresso , chocolate, currant and cassis. each then showed something a little different licorice, cinnamon, vanilla extract, tobacco and blueberry. Find these wines, drink these wines you will find out what absolute premier wines should be.

It was in March of 1974 when the EAGLES released their Country-Alt-Rock album ON THE BORDER. Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Bernie Leadon were nearing the end of their magnificent run when they released OTB. Leadon was knee deep in Country, but with the recent death of Gram Parsons and the want of Henley and Frey to go more rocky-pop, the Eagles concocted an album that was full of all those ingredients with the angst to match. Songs like MY MAN ( Leadons tribute to Parsons) with its pedal steel guitar)leading the Country-Alt parade , but Frey injected more of his rock genes with ALREADY GONE,JAMES DEAN, GOOD DAY IN HELL, and Henley really inserted his Ballad-Pop style with ON THE BORDER,YOU NEVER CRY LIKE A LOVER,and BEST OF MY LOVE to begin the squeezing out of Leadon. Still with all the muscle flexing and ego grinding the EAGLES produced a great album that was a staple in many a dorm room and should be on everyone's iPOD Now ! Get it !

There is no denying Johan Santana is still one of the premier pitchers in MLB, however he is not getting any younger and his numbers have slowly but surely been climbing in the wrong direction. Last season he chalked up an almost 500 record (15-13) with an increase in era from 2.77 in 06 to 3.33 in 07. I understand the argument "The Twins weren’t supplying enough run support, but given the track record of the Yankees previous recent pitching acquisitions (Johnson, Pavano, Brown, Wright etc.) should we be skeptical of another smaller market over worked pitcher coming to NY and achieving success? And at what cost? I understand our need for a legitimate number one, and if they can work something out for Melky & Kennedy or Hughes, OK fine. I'd hate to loose Robi or Joba... What do you think, remember 29 years old is not 24...

Two pleasant surprises last night, on a night that started slowly when a certain West Coast BS bum showed up at my door with zero, zilch , nil long and oft discussed special release Cohibas . However he was not hat in hand he came across with two items i had not had before and was pleasantly surprised with both. Fiorst was the Montecristo Edicion limitada robusto, a 5" 50 ring dark wrapper beauty. This limited edition showed many of the leather and cedar qualities that have made Monte famous , they were more bold and darker then the traditional monte, great draw. we paired this with an Evan Williams 1997 Single Barrel bourbon. Very interesting bourbon, sort of floral and spicy on the nose a bit of ginger and licorice and very very smooth sweet , almost candied finish. A great pairing to start the holiday. If some of you have been getting sticker shock with the single malts this year as the dollar gets pummeled looked to the great buys in high end bourbon.

has hinted that the recent US comments about his country might escalate into something more. What that more is he didn't say...but I think this could become a big problem for the United States. TURKEY has been a friend of the USA over 60 years, but I'm wondering what's the importance of this country MILITARILY or POLITICALLY, and why do we care so much ?

if this new tactic will work for artists in the Music Industry ? It seems Lady Madonna had no artistic freedom at Warner (hard to believe) and that also she wanted more control over her music sales ( does anybody buy it?) , so she got LIVE NATION to fork over the 120 and now SHE and LN will have more control over her music, concerts, and possible movies. It sounds and feels like a huge HICKEY on the neck of Live Nation, but Madonna would never do that ..Right ?

For the past week all they have been talking about is the FED rate cute. They have had 300 experts who have said either they will cut rates by def 1/4 , maybe a 1/2. One after another each commentator said: Prob 1/4, maybe 1/2..Prob a 1/4 maybe a 1/2 , Prob 1/4 maybe 1/2.. Then they cut rates by a half 1/2 , and they start screaming... " In a surprise cut , the Fed cut rates by 1/2.. What a surprise OMG !" I've heard of ratings hunting, but stop with the over-surprised grandstanding,,ikt makes me sick !

Over the past 6 years a number of buddies and I get together the week of 9/11 and spend a few days enjoying the memory of friends lost. We've all been on the street for a long time and were all downtown that fateful day. This year after finishing 36 holes of golf we were having a few cocktails and smoking Fuente Opus X perfexion A's. The A is 9.25 inches and 47 ring. It was a very complex smoke that developed and got better and better until the long awaited finish. It is a tremendous smokin experience .

Maybe its just me, call me old fashioned, but with the NFL season opening this weekend, I 've found too many guys, mostly younger( maybe I'm just old), talking about LT this year. I would just like to say, anytime those initals are mentioned, yards per carry, rushing attempts, TD's, should only be referred to when talking about, the tremendous effort #56 had when limiting opposing team's offense...I just have a problem talking about an LT who carries the ball 32 times a game... LT wud steal the ball, rip it from the QB's arms prior to running 50 some yards for a TD...no one just gave LT the ball...ever...

Blood on the Tracks was a masterpiece the minute it was released in 1975. Dylan who was in the midst of a divorce from his wife Sara at the time wrote about that relation and other adventures in his explorative life. From the beginning song TANGLED UP IN BLUE through a complicated weave of love, failed lives, and adventures in time.. Dylan takes us to places in his mind and places in ours that we sometimes don't like to go. Every song is perfect with such beasts as the afore mentioned TANGLED, SIMPLE TWIST OF FATE, YOU"RE A BIG GIRL NOW, IF YOU SEE HER SAY HELLO, and the superior SHELTER FROM THE STORM. Get this CD .. Put it in your IPod and you will give yourself a treat that will last forever.

I can read THE HUNGRY CATEPILLAR to my 5 year old and I can read THE WILLIE MAYS STORY to my 8 year old, but I can't read anything about Goblins and Wizards or Schools that are named Hogwarts or have Witchcraft as their main subject of study. I just can't do it and neither should you.
